Trainer Code of Conduct
Last updated June 26, 2026
This is the pledge every trainer accepts to appear in our directory. It is the inclusion filter and the promise we make to worried dog owners. The version below is v1.0, and we record exactly which version each trainer accepted.
The pledge (v1.0)
By listing with dogtraininglist.com, I commit that:
- I train and consult using reward-based, force-free methods, grounded in current behavior science.
- I follow LIMA (least intrusive, minimally aversive): I choose the gentlest effective approach and work to set dogs up to succeed.
- I do not use pain, fear, force, or intimidation. That includes prong collars, choke chains, and shock or e-collars, as well as dominance-based or punishment-based techniques.
- I keep people and dogs safe, and I refer cases beyond my scope, including serious aggression and suspected medical issues, to a veterinary behaviorist or appropriate professional.
- I represent my credentials and services honestly and keep my listing accurate.
- I treat clients and their dogs with respect and compassion, and I make no guarantees of specific outcomes.
Why it matters
Owners come to this directory because they are worried about their dog and want help that will not make things worse. This pledge is how we keep that promise. If a listed trainer is not honoring it, please let us know.
